REGGAE ICON ANNOUNCES NORTH AMERICAN TOUR AND NEW ALBUM
Jamaican musical legend Beres Hammond will return to the United States and Canada from July 30th to September 7th for his highly anticipated tour, celebrating his upcoming VP album A MOMENT IN TIME. On the tour, fans can look forward to hear his timeless classics as well brand new material from his eagerly awaited album, set to be released September 2008.Known to many as the originator of “Lover’s Rock” or the “Otis Redding of Reggae,” Beres Hammond has been writing, producing andpouring out his smoky-sweet voice over every kind of riddim track for over 3 decades. He has repeatedly sold out some of the country’s largest and most prestigious venues (Theatre at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall). He has paved the way for many musicians today and is a favorite of Wyclef Jean, Carl Thomas and Alicia Keys.
From his early days as the lead singer of the ‘70s funk-reggae infused band Zap Pow, Beres has consistently produced hits and number one singles. While newcomers today are searching for a breakthrough hit and old timers are plotting their comeback, Beres is a study in longevity. He released his first studio album, SOUL REGGAE in 1976 spawning the number one hit “One Step Ahead” and in 1985 the dancehall breakthrough “What One Dance Can Do” off his self entitled album. He has collaborated with Reggae’s elite—Marcia Griffiths and Buju Banton are virtually staples on any Beres tour—and has worked with legendary producers like Willie Lindo, Steely and Clevie, and Philip “Fattis” Burrell. In 1990, his album A LOVE AFFAIR from Donovan Germaine's Penthouse label raised his popularity to new heights. Cuts like “Tempted To Touch” and “Who Say” with Buju Banton are still huge in the dancehall today. During the ‘90s, Beres blazed a trail of modern classics for a variety of producers, from the strugglers' anthem “Putting Up Resistance” (Tappa) to lovers' laments like “Come Back Home” (Star Trail). In 2001, Beres brought us major hits like “They Gonna Talk” and “Rock Away” from his Grammy nominated album MUSIC IS LIFE. VP Records thenreleased THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION: CAN’T STOP A MAN in 2003 to commemorate Hammond’s career, and in 2004 his latest album LOVE HAS NO BOUNDARIES, whichfeatureshis familiar romantic ballads and mid-tempo dancehall grooves. Currently, Beres is putting the final touches on his long awaited VP release A MOMENT IN TIME.

---CD REVIEW BY WWW.REGGAE-VIBES.COM-- |
|
"Each contribution has its own merit, but in particular Lutan Fyah's "Be Real", Lukie D's lovers tune "Make Me Smile", Ras Myrhdak's "Gonna Tell Ur Friends", and "Lock Down" by Tony Curtis are great voicings and form the main pillars of the selection. Also worth of hearing are Chezidek's "Soul Food", Qshan Deya's "Youths Need Family" and Cha'Maine's "Friends & Lovers". All in all "A Little Bit More Riddim" offers a fine selection from start to finish. (Courtesy of Teacher & Mr T of Reggae Vibes) |
